Looking for Cloud Platform Recommendations for Hosting Business

Hi everyone,

I'm currently running a small cloud hosting business and using Virtualizor as my cloud platform. I chose it mainly because it's easy to use, affordable, and integrates well with WHMCS.

However, I'm looking to explore other options and would really appreciate any recommendations or experiences from fellow members here. I'm particularly interested in platforms that are:
- User-friendly for both admin and clients
- Support WHMCS integration
- Reliable and scalable
- Cost-effective for small to mid-sized operations


So far, I've looked into a few like Proxmox, SolusVM, and VirtFusion, but I’d love to hear real-world feedback from those who’ve used them in production.

What cloud platform are you using for your hosting business, and why? Any pros and cons you'd like to share?

If your focus is on ease of use VirtFusion and SolusVM 2.0 might be your best bet right now. Proxmox is a solid choice too if you're okay with a more hands-on setup.

There's a ModulesGarden module that integrates with Proxmox and WHMCS.

You could download the trial and check it out.

We use Proxmox on our servers, but not the module.

We use SolusVM — a reliable and user-friendly VPS management panel.
Advantages: simple interface, fast OS reboot/installation, API management, and support for KVM/OpenVZ/Xen.

Only SolusVM 1 supports Xen, and they blocked new installs of that.

SolusVM 2 does not support Xen. It only supports OpenVZ 7 and KVM.

Openstack is the other platform worth looking at particularly if you want extra features such as load balancing which isn't available with standard KVM and some other VPS platforms.
The extra features such as auto scaling is what I think of when Cloud is mentioned.
General VPS hosting doesn't generally come with much in terms of being redundant you can build redundancy into the network but you can't very easily automatically scale from 1 to 10 servers if required.
So that is where Open Stack and Proxmox can be handy in that you get those cloud features without having to Pay the AWS or Azure tax.

We tried Virtualizor some time ago, but unfortunately it didn’t seem very reliable for our project. We also tested VirtFusion, which was quite decent – probably an excellent tool for a smaller project. In the end, we went with SolusVM and we’re absolutely satisfied. The only concern is that it’s owned by the WebPros group.

Stick with Virtualizor if it’s already working for you otherwise Proxmox would be my recommendation. I worry about Solusvm’s future pricing models (they’re run by the cPanel owners!)

If you don't have in-house technical expertise, consider using VirtFusion or SolusVM 2.0, as they are user-friendly and easy to manage. However, you may encounter limitations when attempting advanced operations (e.g., creating snapshots is not possible with VirtFusion). On the other hand, if you have a team of experienced technical professionals, Proxmox is a viable option, offering a comprehensive and robust set of features.

For small businesses, it's not recommended to attempt using OpenStack, as managing it is likely to be beyond their technical capabilities.
