The good folks at Softaculous announced today that Backuply Server Pro is now included free of charge with Softaculous Premium licenses. I feel excited!

It supports incremental backups, S3, SSH, FTP, and Local NFS storage.

However, it is not clear whether it is free on cPanel and DirectAdmin. The documentation doesn't imply anything.

That's a big plus.

Currently, cPanel is experiencing a decline. If it continues to increase prices, its price will soon reach a point where it will no longer make sense to use it. But we still want backup formats to be cPanel's native backup format.

The same applies to other control panels. Backup formats need to be in the native control panel backup format. This alone will eliminate many backup-related errors.

I asked the same thing back in April and Brijesh said

Regarding the structure I think it will be difficult to preserve the cPanel backup structure as we will need a unified backup structure to restore across panels.

So it'd be like JetBackup. The only one I know that retains the default cPanel backup structure is cPremote, but it lacks essential features that JetBackup has, such as a progress bar for the backup and restore process, showing how many accounts remain to be backed up or restored. As we know, they're supposed to be releasing a new version of cPremote called Enterprise, but no updates on that yet. The current cPremote is used on Eenos control panel.

I think it's odd that Backuply Pro is free for cPanel users if they are already using Softaculous, as some have dropped Softaculous because cPanel already includes WP Toolkit.

I had switched some VPS from cPanel to Webuzo as the client wanted to save on licensing costs from cPanel, and at the time, Backuply for Webuzo was free. After switching to Webuzo, it started charging $5/month extra for each VPS to use Backuply, with incremental backups (full/compressed is free). However, since there is limited space on VPS, we couldn't use full/compressed, and therefore had to pay the extra $5/month for all VPS, which increased the price. The client wasn't that happy about that. Still, the cost of Webuzo and Backuply is less than cPanel/WHM and its outdated backup system.

I allowed the client to continue using Webuzo, but I decided not to offer it as an alternative for the reasons mentioned above. Additionally, you cannot use pre-includes for Apache configuration on Webuzo, unlike with cPanel, at least not through the GUI.

Webuzo is getting there, but I'm going to give it another 6-12months or more. I check the progress periodically.

Yeah I noticed it several months ago. At https://backuply.com/pricing/ it used to have on the "For Control Panels" tab mention of cPanel and DirectAdmin.

Brijesh told me on LinkedIn April 9th

This decision to make Backuply free on cPanel, Webuzo, and DirectAdmin, could shake the hosting industry if it is implemented correctly.

Basic errors, like the one you mentioned, need to be fixed swiftly, as many users utilize multiple destinations. Most people are not happy with the current industry standard. An alternative will have a market ready to grab. People on VPS need a low-cost backup solution - Backuply can be that solution.

More importantly, unlike other newcomers in this field, it supports multiple control panels. That's a big plus.

Further on the features we will be adding many more features to Backuply in the coming months which will also include restoring backups from one panel to another

I've been using Backuply on some VPS and it works well with one backup job

Thanks for the confirmation. That's what we need to hear: that it's ready to use on VPS and dedicated client servers.

I've not tried Backuply, but it would be nice to see some feedback from anyone who's been using it for a while

Our fellow Chris has been using it. ^^^^

I can confirm it is available on DirectAdmin as well.

On our servers, it shows a button that says "Install Backuply Pro for Free", so I am assuming you can install the Pro version for free if you have Softaculous Premium?

Thanks for sharing that.

Yes, we would still like to hear from Brijesh.

I too would like confirmation from Brijesh if that is correct though.

I've not tried Backuply, but it would be nice to see some feedback from anyone who's been using it for a while...and whether it can hold its own against the likes of JetBackup 5.

I've been using Backuply on some VPS and it works well with one backup job, but does show some odd issues when I have multiple different backups from time to time, i.e can't create SSH destination, or it shows like

[0] => Fatal: create repository at sftp://[email protected]:xxxx/webuzo-backuply/xxx failed: Fatal: unable to open repository at sftp://[email protected]:xxxx/webuzo-backuply/xxx: config file already exists
[1] =>
)

Whereas JetBackup doesn't have such issues. Backuply is new, though, and hopefully it will be improved to resolve such issues.
